The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has begun administering Pfizer vaccines to people above 12 years. The vaccine will be administered to people suffering from chronic disease.
The first phase of the Pfizer vaccination drive has begun today.
The vaccines will be administered from 24 hospitals across the country.
The vaccine will be inoculated to chronically ill people suffering from kidney transplants, dialysis, treatment of any type of cancer, lung disease, organ transplant, high blood pressure, and diabetes, according to the ministry.
Likewise, the second dose of the vaccine will be provided after 21 to 28 days of the first dose. The ministry has stated that the second dose of the Pfizer vaccination campaign will start from December 10 to 14.
The US-donated vaccine arrived in Nepal on October 25. The vaccines were provided under the COVAX facility by World Health Organization (WHO), an international vaccine sharing scheme backed by United Nations.
In addition, UNICEF has also provided four fridges with 100 liter capacity for the storage of the vaccines as the vaccines should be stored at -70 degree temperature.
The US government had donated 100,620 doses of Pfizer vaccines to Nepal earlier this month.
Similarly, MoHP is also working to procure six million doses of Pfizer to vaccinate children above 12 years.
This vaccine will be the fourth one to be used by Nepal to inoculate the citizens.
Nepal has so far used Covishield manufactured by India, Vero Cell of China manufactured by Shinopharm and, AstraZeneca vaccines manufactured by Japan and European countries till now.
Before this in July, the US govt had provided 1,730,000 doses of the Janssen vaccine as well to Nepal.
