MPs call for reforms in Nepal's health sector

Member of Parliament Rajan KC emphasized on the need to improve the overall health sector of Nepal.

During the ongoing discussion on the various headings of the Appropriation Bill, 2080, related to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and Ministry of Health and Population at the House of Representatives today, MP KC called for reforms in the health sector of the country.

Member of Parliament Tshiring Lama Bhote demanded that the medical mafia should be identified and taken action.

Likewise, MP Devprasad Timilsina said education and health should be free for the general public, with easy access to health services.

Meanwhile, parliamentarian Menka Kumari Pokharel complained that the budget was introduced based on the power of political parties and leaders. The government has not made any provision in the budget for diseases like heart, diabetes and cancer, neither has any attention been given to awareness.

Parliamentarian Damodar Paudel Bairagi urged the concerned to bring the Citizenship Bill to the Parliament and pass it tomorrow. He said that the Federal Civil Code should be implemented as soon as possible.

Likewise, MP Sanjay Kumar Gautam said that current expenditure has increased and development expenditure has decreased, which is a nationwide problem.

MP Hemraj Rai was of the view that the government should focus on implementing federalism while Member of Parliament Leeladevi Bokhem Limbu stressed that the government should take into notice the human and material damage caused by the incessant rains that occurred last night in various districts of the east.

MP Narayan Prasad Acharya demanded that health insurance should be organized further. MP Ramshankar Yadav accused the party leaders of allocating the budget in their districts based on their influence.

Member of Parliament Prem Bahadur Maharjan drew the attention of the government saying that no provision has been made in the budget for mental health.

The House of Representatives will meet next at 11 o'clock on Monday.
