Yeti airlines: Ranked first in safety rating among airlines in major airports

Yeti Air is ahead in safety rating among the Nepali airlines flying to major airports in Nepal following safety rules where as in the small airport, Summit Air has said to be one of the top ones in Nepal. The investigation committee formed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has reached that conclusion.

The investigation committee formed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has reached that conclusion. The committee has come to this conclusion after studying 10 'fixed wing' airlines and 10 helicopter companies registered and operating in Nepal.

According to the report, the air safety management system covers four issues including security policy and objectives, security risk management, security assurance and security promotion. The committee compared the implementation status of the security management system with the three-year statistics.

•  Summit Air: 81 percent (68 percent in 2020)
• Yeti Air: 79 percent (74 percent in 2020)
•  Buddha Air: 74 percent (79 percent in 2020)
•  Saurya Air: 67 percent (67 percent by 2020)
• Nepal Airlines: 64% (77% by 2020)
•  Guna Airlines: 64% (64% by 2020)
•  Shree Airlines: 64% (64% by 2020)
•  Tara Air: 64% (77% by 2020)
•  Sita Air: 43 percent (63 percent in 2020)

•  Manang Air: 77 percent (66 percent by 2020)
• Mountain Haley: 72 percent (67 percent by 2020)
•  Haley Everest: 72 percent (77 percent by 2020)
•  Simrik Air: 71 percent (71 percent by 2020)
• Air Dynasty: 70 percent (59 percent by 2020)
• Altitude Air: 66 percent (63 percent by 2020)
•  Prabhu Haley: 45 percent (26 percent by 2020)
•  Fishtail Air: 15 percent (31 percent by 2020)

The report states, ‘Overall the position of implementation of helicopter air safety management systems appears to be weaker than that of stationary wing airlines.

According to the committee, one third of the accidents have occurred in the mountains. Of the 35 accidents between 2011 and 2020, 50 percent went off the runway, 33 percent crashed into a mountain, and 17 percent lost control while flying. Many of these accidents have resulted in human casualties.

According to the report, not only the airlines but also the regulatory body has shown weakness in air safety. The activities of wildlife and birds have also added to the challenges and complexities in aviation security.

Compared to the last three years, there have been 21 bird-related incidents at Tribhuvan Airport in 2021 alone. 5 in Pokhara, 4 in Bharatpur, Janakpur and Biratnagar, 3 in Nepalgunj, 2 in Chandragadhi and 1/1 in Lukla, Bhairahawa, Bajura, Surkhet, Dhangadhi, Rajbiraj and Simara. More animal activity has been seen in Nepalgunj and Bhairahawa. In 2021, there were 5 incidents in Nepalgunj, 4/4 in Bhairahawa and Biratnagar, and 1/1 in Chandragadhi, Bharatpur, Janakpur and Simara.
