Mount Elbrus, the largest mountain in Europe, has been ascended 121 times by a Nepali climber. The height of this highest and most prominent peak in Russia and Europe is 5,642 m. Nepalese mountaineer Chatur Tamang has climbed Mt. Elbrus so many times while guiding other climbers. He now aims to reach Elbrus Mountain 140 times by next August.
He is leaving for Russia tomorrow as a guide on Mount Elbrus.
He says that although there are facilities for climbing Mount Elbrus, the risk is very high. He informed me that climbers' death rate is higher there than on Mount Everest.
Climber Chatur Tamang has just returned from a successful climb of Mt Everest. He climbed Mount Everest for the sixth time this year. He started climbing Everest in 2012. Compared to last year, this year due to wind and bad weather, he has experienced difficulty in climbing Mount Everest. He said that due to climate change, the amount of snow in the mountains is decreasing and the White Mountains have turned into black mountains.
Expressing grief over the death of 11 people during the climbing of Mount Everest this year, he described the opinion that the government should make proper arrangements for the families of the climbers who died in the mountains.
Chatur Tamang, a climber from Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu, has been engaged in climbing since 1995. He climbed Mount Manaslu 7 times. He has climbed mountains like Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, Amadablam, Choyu, and Baruntse.
Chatur Tamang said that every time he goes to the mountains, his mother and other family members tell him not to take risks anymore. But he clarified that he is used to taking risks.
He plans to continue climbing as long as his body allows. He told NepalNews that his goal is to continue climbing small mountains even if he is not able to climb the big mountains by the age of 60.
