The Immigration Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a notice on 3 April to the tourists visiting Nepal to bring cash as there was a problem in withdrawing Nepali Rupees from the ATM at the Tribhuvan International Airport to pay the on-arrival visa fee.

Stating that this has highlighted the weakness of the tourism service flow, the businessmen said that electronic visa can be issued as an alternative. Instead of rectifying the general weaknesses, the cumbersome arrangement of bringing cash by the tourists visiting Nepal would make the tourists more negative towards Nepal and also reduce the credibility of our structure.

The Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAN), the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), the Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) issued a joint statement on Monday addressing this issue.

They also drew the attention of the government to work in a way to facilitate the arrival of tourists by adding structures including ATM machines at the Tribhuvan Airport.  They have also requested the government to consult with the stakeholders before making such decisions.
