Strengthening of democracy priority: NC President Deuba

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said NC will always work to further strengthening democracy in the country.

In his address to a symposium entitled 'non-violence and peace: present context' organised by the Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Memorial Trust on the occasion of 99th birth anniversary of NC former general secretary Mahendra Narayan Nidhi, the NC President said ''The Supreme Court's verdict to reinstate the House of Representatives has paved a way for strengthening democracy, and with this judiciary and democracy have won.''

The former Prime Minister took time to make it clear that the party had remained silent in regard to the case relating to the dissolution of the House of Representatives as it was sub-judice in the court. The party which had struggled for the parliamentary system and democracy was happy over the reinstatement of the parliament.

He further said the party's 14th General Convention will be held this coming August/September.

He shed light on the role of Nidhi in the democratic movements at home.

Similarly, NC Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi said the party would play a responsible role in the reinstated House of Representatives. Stating the party had welcomed the SC decision, he was of the view that the incumbent Prime Minister should resign from the post on moral ground.

Parliamentary procedures follow the non-violence and peaceful course.

Similarly, NC central member Ananda Prasad Dhungana remembered the late Nidhi as a person with simple living and high thinking.

Trust Chair Purushottam Dahal said the NC should not be greedy for the post now.

Former minister Tirtharam Dangol, NC invitee member Rama Poudel and Pro Dr Ananda Prasad Acharya among others said peace and non-violence was the appropriate way for development in the country.
