The Election Commission has stated that the voting process for the 19 vacant seats in the National Assembly will start from January 1.
Spokesperson of the Commission, Shaligram Sharma Poudel, informed that the voting process for the 19 vacant seats in the upcoming National Assembly election on January 26 will start from tomorrow. After this, the final list of candidates, selection of election symbol, and election code of conduct will be implemented from January 4 to 9.
The commission has stated that there are 2,025 voters in the National Assembly election with 1,493 at the local level and 532 in the state assembly. Similarly, 8 polling stations and 14 polling booths have been set up for the voting process.
Similarly, 12 parties have registered to participate in the National Assembly elections. Spokesperson Poudel said that 12 parties have registered to participate in the National Assembly electionsn so far.
The commission is going to determine the priority of the symbol on the ballot paper of the National Assembly election on the basis of the proportional votes received by the parties in the House of Representatives election.
At the beginning of the ballot paper will be the sun symbol of the CPN-UML, in the second will be the tree of the Congress, in the third will be the hammer and sickle inside the circle of the Maoist center, and in the fourth will be the hanging umbrella of the Janata Samajwadi Party.
Similarly, Unified Socialist Party will be in the fifth position, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party in sixth, Rastriya Prajatantra Party in seventh, Rastriya Janamorcha in eighth, Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party in ninth, and so on.
According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the term of office of eight members of UML, three members of Congress, four members of Unified Socialists and one person nominated by the President will end on March 4.
The National Assembly Election Act stipulates that if two or more parties representing in the House of Representatives merge, the total number of votes obtained by that party before the unification will be considered as the votes received by the existing party.
The Act states that the Election Commission shall provide the election symbol of the party candidate on the basis of the number of votes obtained for the proportional system in the election of the House of Representatives.
In the case of a party not being represented in the House of Representatives, the symbol has to be determined on the basis of the order registered with the Commission for election purposes. Independent candidates are required to mark their names alphabetically.
