Vice President's race: 'Main agenda – safeguarding constitution's supremacy and compliance'

Candidates for vice president have intensified their publicity and voter outreach because of the election to be held on March 17.

Candidates, including Ashtalaxmi Shakya (Bohora), Prameela Kumari, Mamata Jha, and Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav had registered their candidacy for the vice president. However, Prameela Kumari had already announced to remain passive in the race.

According to the code of conduct, the silence period would prevail from 12.00 tonight (48 hours before Election Day) until the closure of the polling center. Publicity is prohibited to conduct the election in a free, fair, credible, and transparent manner.

Shakya promises to keep constitutional supremacy

Vice-President candidate Ashtalaxmi Shakya from CPN-UML promised to keep constitutional supremacy, protect its spirit, promote nationalism, preserve national interests and provide guidance for all.

"If I emerge victorious to the post, I would strive my best to provide ownership to all by keeping the integrity of the position. I am asking voters to vote for me keeping this strong belief. I have received positive response from the voters", she added.

My candidacy for constitution's compliance-Yadav

Another candidate for the post of Vice-president, Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav of the Janata Samajwadi Party commented that his candidacy was for the compliance and safeguarding of the constitution. "If elected to the post, I would devote my efforts to promote national unity and keep peace and prosperity in the country through the implementation of the constitution and laws", he pledged.

Both the candidates have directly approached the political parties, their parliamentary party leaders, and voters to ask for votes and also create an environment for their win.

The Election Commission (EC) has stated that no election publicity activities such as discussion, interaction, meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars would be permitted during the silence period.

The commission has also suggested not to seek votes, use an electronic medium such as SMS, Facebook, and Viber to woo voters, release statements against the code of conduct, publish or broadcast any content, and forecast wins and losses through media.

Also, the commission has urged the Electoral College members to participate in the voting process on Election Day from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm.
