The local administration is positive about resuming public transportation in Kathmandu Valley by maintaining safety protocol, said the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE).

Transport entrepreneurs and officials on Thursday held a discussion in this regard at the Kathmandu District Administration Office.

During the talk, the officials were positive about resuming public transport in the Valley by following the health protocol, said the FNNTE President, Yogendra Nath Karmacharya.

Transportation workers and entrepreneurs have been hit hard since public transport has come to a halt for about two months following the second wave of COVID-19.

In response, Kathmandu's Chief District Officer (CDO) Kali Prasad Parajuli pledged to take a decision to this effect within June 27 after holding consultation with the Home Secretary and Chief Secretary.

Transport entrepreneurs have been demanding that all transportation system should be allowed instead of going for odd and even number plate rules, citing that passengers would find it difficult to travel on crammed vehicles due to the imposition of odd-even rules.

The FNNTE has also asked for permission to resume public vehicles outside the valley. The FNNTE has further been demanding that all transport workers be vaccinated against COVID-19.
