Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had inaugurated the 456-megawatt Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, a national pride project of the country, on July 5. The project was inaugurated virtually amidst a function organised at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.
There are a total of six units of the hydropower project and PM Oli had inaugurated the first unit with capacity to generate 76 megawatts of power when it was actually producing only seven megawatts then. Moreover, production from the unit has also been irregular as the project is still under trial phase.
According to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the project was inaugurated on the very day that the test run was conducted and it is trying to resolve all the issues at present. Management of the transmission line constructed from Tamakoshi to Khimti had still not finished until Friday. The project had stopped production from the project from Tuesday so as to test the 132 Kv transmission line from Garjyang to Khimti.
As per NEA, the testing of the transmission line has completed and now it is testing the production stage. Hence, power being generated by the project is being transmitted to the national grid on an irregular basis.
