The CPN (UML) has urged the Chinese government to move ahead with road, rail, irrigation, education and health projects related to the Belt and Road Initiative.
The request was made by Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi, who is on a three-day visit to Nepal, during a courtesy call on UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli. During the meeting held here today, UML leader Rajan Bhattarai said that they have requested to create a conducive environment for Nepali students studying in various Chinese universities affected by Corona to return easily.
UML thanked the Chinese government for its assistance to Nepal during the Corona pandemic. UML had requested Chinese Foreign Minister Wang for the regular operation of Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi checkpoints. Foreign Minister Wang welcomed the UML's request and said that they were ready to support Nepal's development and prosperity.
Foreign Minister Wang said that the Chinese government will continue to support the regulation of issues related to BRI and other projects. UML senior vice president Ishwor Pokhrel, general secretary Shankar Pokhrel and other leaders were present at the meeting. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also had a courtesy call on President Bidhyadevi Bhandari today.
On Saturday evening, Wang had a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. Earlier, delegation-level talks were held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. At the same time, various nine-point agreements were reached.
