Tanahun Hydropower: Transmission Line Expansion Accelerated

The Tanahu Hydropower Project has expedited the transmission line expansion work. The project under construction has already constructed 20 towers to generate 140 MW of electricity at Rishing Gaonpalika-1, Jhaputar, Tanahu.

 Out of 94 towers of the 220 kV double circuit transmission line from Damauli to Bharatpur of Chitwan, 41 towers have been laid and 20 towers have been buried. Kiran Kumar Shrestha, managing director of Tanahu Hydropower Limited, the promoter of the project, informed that the main work of the project has been divided into three packages.

 The construction work of a 140-meter high dam is being done by Songda Corporation, Vietnam-Kalika Construction Pvt. Ltd. Nepal JV under the first package of the project. He said that the construction work is underway to reach the upper part of the dam site.

 Sino Hydro Corporation, China is constructing the second package of the project including tunnel, construction of powerhouse and supply, connection and operation of hydromechanical and electromechanical equipment while excavation work of underground powerhouse has reached the final stage. A 1,418-meter-long main tunnel is being dug. "About 300 meters of the main tunnel has been dug so far," he said.

 KEC International, India is constructing a 220 kV double circuit transmission line from Damauli to Bharatpur of Chitwan under the third package of the project. The project is also working on electrification in Tanahu under the Rural Electrification Program. The overall construction of the project is targeted to be completed by June 2027 AD. The total cost of the company's capital structure and financial management project, including transmission line, rural electrification and construction period interest, is Rs. 5.5 billion. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided Rs. 184 million, European Investment Bank Rs. 85 million and Government of Nepal / Nepal Electricity Authority Rs. 86 million.
