More than 650,000 syringes used for Pfizer vaccine have arrived in Nepal. According to the Department of Health Services, 666,000 units of syringes has arrived in Nepal on Tuesday through regular flights of Qatar Airlines.

Surendra Chaurasia, chief of the health department's management division, said the 0.3 ml syringe used in the Pfizer vaccine arrived on Tuesday afternoon.

Due to the lack of syringes, the vaccination campaign for children in eight districts, including the Kathmandu Valley, was affected.  Despite the arrival of syringes for Pfizer vaccination, only children in three districts of Kathmandu Valley will be given Pfizer vaccine.

As there is no guarantee of additional Pfizer vaccine, only children from 12 to 17 years in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur will be vaccinated. It is reported that the vaccine will be given to the children of these three districts within 2 to 3 days.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Population had decided to give Pfizer vaccine to the children of three districts of Kathmandu Valley, Kavre, Chitwan, Sindhuli, Dadeldhura and Surkhet.

A total of 664,000 doses of the vaccine had arrived in Nepal on December 24 under Covax facility. "We have decided to vaccinate only the children of Kathmandu Valley as there is no guarantee of additional Pfizer vaccine," the department announced.

On the other hand, Moderna vaccine is expected to arrive within a few weeks.
