The Government of Spain has handed over medical supplies worth over Rs 140 million to the Ministry of Health and Population. The medical supplies were handed over to Minister of Health and Population Hridayesh Tripathi.
According to Nepali Ambassador to Spain, Dawa Futi Sherpa, the medical supplies include 1.44 lakh face masks, 1.25 lakh antigen test kits, surgical gloves, sanitiser, and other necessary medical products. The medical supplies were brought to Nepal by Ambassador Sherpa and Director of the Spanish Development Aid Agency (AECID) Magdy Martinez-Soliman.
The medical supplies were handed over by Martinez-Soliman to Minister Tripathi at the airport itself. Since Nepal is facing a dire situation at the moment due to the outbreak of the second wave of coronavirus with the number of infections and deaths related to COVID-19 rising by the day, Ambassador Sherpa had taken the initiative to bring the medical supplies from Spain.
The Spanish government has said that it hopes the medical supplies will help Nepal in its fight against the virus. The Health Ministry has mentioned that this is the biggest amount of medical help received from a foreign country in the fight against the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister of Spain Arancha González Laya has also lauded Nepal for its role in helping Spanish citizens return home amidst the lockdown.
