The runway of Suntharali Airport under construction in Narahari Nath Gaunpalika-1 Kotwada of Kalikot is targeted to be completed by mid-July.
Engineer Ratna Bahadur Shrestha of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal informed that the work of cutting soil and constructing drains around the airport tower building has been completed. "Work is underway to start blacktop on the runway of the airport from the first week of next April”, he says.
The work of the airport was done at a snail's pace due to lack of road access to the airport, armed conflict in the past and so on. NEA has given time to the contractor company to complete the construction within this fiscal year. It is stated that Rs. 390 million has been spent on the construction of the airport since 2042 BS.
Representative of Gauri Parvati Shyam & Shankar JV, Kalam KC, informed that the contractor company had problems in transporting construction materials to the airport. He said, "It is very difficult to get construction materials as the road is unpaved and difficult. We are preparing to blacktop the runway from the first week of April.”
The company has won a contract worth Rs. 138.1 million for blacktop, drain and soil cutting and PR Infrastructure has won a contract worth Rs. 34.77 million for the construction of buildings and towers.
