Prof Surya P Subedi appointed advisor of IUCN

Professor of International Law at the University of Leeds, Surya Prasad Subedi, has been appointed legal advisor of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The IUCN was established in 1948 and has its presence in more than 160 countries across the globe. IUCN members include more than 1,400 government and civil society organisations and the input of more than 18,000 experts. The IUCN headquartered in Gland, Switzerland is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it.

Prof Subedi has been appointed to provide necessary legal advice for IUCN World Conservation Congress taking place in the UK on September 3-11.

Subedi who did his PhD from Oxford University had already served as an advisor to the UK Minister for Foreign Affairs and UN human rights representative for Cambodia.

Subedi who received the Order of the British Empire Award from the UK Queen is well-known as an expert of international law.

Also having an office in Nepal, IUCN has been working in 15 diverse sectors of the environment globally.
