President inaugurates the first National Conference of the Judicial Committee

President Bidyadevi Bhandari has inaugurated the first national conference of the Judicial Committee at the Pokhara Assembly Hall using digital technology. Gandaki Chief Prithviman Gurung, Chief Minister Krishnachandra Nepali Pokhrel, ministers of the state government and members of the state assembly are present at the inauguration ceremony.

 The conference organized by the Pokhara Metropolitan Judicial Committee is attended by the heads and members of the Judicial Committees of all 753 municipalities of the country. There is a constitutional provision to have a judicial committee headed by the deputy chief of metropolis, sub-metropolis, city and village. Article 217 provides for a Judicial Committee under the Local Executive of Part 17 of the Constitution.

 According to the law, a three-member committee will be formed under the coordination of the deputy chief of the municipality or village to resolve disputes within its jurisdiction. The other two members are elected from the town or village assembly. The Judicial Committee has been formed with the objective of making access to justice easy and simple for the general public.

 It has been stated that the difficulties, challenges and achievements of the administration of justice through the Judicial Committees from all the seven states will be discussed at the conference. Manju Devi Gurung, Deputy Chief of Pokhara Metropolitan Corporation and Chief of Judicial Committee informed that the conference will issue Pokhara Declaration.
