A meeting between Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal  and Speaker Devraj Ghimire has taken place today in their bid to resume the obstructed parliament.

During the event at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar, PM Dahal said he would take initiatives in letting the parliament do its business smoothly.

“I will play a role in resuming the parliament. You should also do your part. We must reach a consensus soon. I will take more initiatives with the leader of the main opposition party”, mentioned PM Dahal.

The main opposition CPN (UML) has been obstructing the parliament since July 26 demanding the formation of a high level committee to investigate the recent gold scam.

Similarly, Speaker Ghimire drew the attention of the Prime Minister to immediately take initiatives in resuming the parliament, saying it was not good for the parliament getting obstructed.

“Lawmakers have asked for time to speak. They are saying that they have not been able to put their view on issues like natural disasters. There is not a situation where the parliament cannot proceed without a political consensus. General people are taking the parliament obstruction negatively. At least, the ruling and opposition parties need to hold talks seriously in resuming the parliament,” said Speaker Ghimire.

There were also complaints that the law making process has been affected due to inability to elect leaders of the parliamentary committees as a result of the parliament obstruction, he said.

“I have responsibly taken initiatives for a political consensus to resume the parliament. But, it is not becoming fruitful,” shared the Speaker. ---
