Only Nepalese working abroad for 6 months, allowed to bring 2 phones

Only Nepalese who have returned from working abroad for six months will be allowed to bring two mobile phones.

The Customs Department issued a notice on Sunday saying that only those who have been employed abroad for six months with a work permit will be allowed to bring two mobile phones.

The director of the department, Punyavikram Khadka, said that Nepalese who have gone to work abroad with a work permit can bring a mobile phone that is running one and a 'Silpack' or both.

According to him, Nepalis abroad for study and other purposes will be allowed to bring only one phone.

"Nepalese citizens who have worked abroad for at least six consecutive months with a labor permit must declare one more mobile phone at the customs office and complete the customs process", the release said, "Nepalese who are abroad for other purposes, one mobile phone. There is no need to declare the set at the customs office. The decision was taken by the meeting of the Council of Ministers.

In the order related to goods for personal use that passengers can bring and take with them, there is a provision that passengers returning from abroad can bring the mobile phone they are using without paying a fee.

According to the same arrangement, the Nepal Telecommunication Authority is implementing MDMS, a system to control illegal calls from 1st May. According to the customs office, the person should register the phone in the system of Nepal Telecommunication Authority through online means.

For registration, passport or citizenship, and the page of the passport or boarding pass that will be visible when going abroad and returning will have to be uploaded.

Earlier, the authority had prepared to implement Mobile Device Management System (MDMS), a technology to control illegal phones. As the Authority was preparing to implement the said system, the work was stopped for the time being on the instructions of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
