Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) has demanded the government increase the minimum labour wages to Rs 25,000 per month.

Issuing a press statement on Friday, the trade union wing of the Nepali Congress urged the government to bear in mind the current market price and hike minimum wages for private sector workers by Rs 10,000 per month.

"In the government payroll, an office assistant is paid minimum Rs 26,000 per month while this is just Rs 15,000 in the private sector and the amount it meagre to adjust with the existing market," the NTUC said, reminding the need of revising the minimum labour wages in each two years on the basis of a tri-party agreement and in accordance with Nepal Labour Act -2074 BS.
