The President’s Office has made it clear that there is the legal provision that Chief Justice administers the oath of office and secrecy to the Attorney General.

Assistant Spokesperson at President’s Office, Keshav Prasad Ghimire, issued a press release in response to media report that the newly appointed Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati was not administered the oath of office and secrecy at the President’s Office. Ghimire further mentioned, “An act relating to Attorney General’s remuneration, terms of reference and incentives, 2053, has mentioned that Chief Justice administers the oath of office and secrecy to Attorney General.”

In the press release, Ghimire added that the President’s Office had also written to the Supreme Court last April that in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, SC was urged to arrange the administration of oath by Chief Justice to those except the ones mentioning President’s presence.
