Nepal records another highest daily cases, deaths on Tuesday

9,317 new cases take tally to 413,111; 225 deaths reported

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Tuesday reported 9,317 new cases of coronavirus infection, the highest daily record. With this, the COVID count has reached 413,111. Additionally, 166 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the Health Ministry has also recorded 225 deaths from COVID-19 including the data from COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) and Nepali Army's dead body management statistics in the past 24 hours. This is the highest number of deaths reported till now. Earlier, 139 deaths were reported on Monday. As of Tuesday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 4,084. Presently, there are 97,008 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 3,927 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu registered 2,788 cases, Lalitpur 602 cases and Bhaktapur registered 537 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 5,225 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Tuesday, a total of 312,019 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 75.5 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Monday had reported 9,127 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 403,794.

As of Tuesday, a total of 2,672,726 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 97,008 persons staying in isolation while 448 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 159.02 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 3,444,309 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, a Reuters tally showed as of 3:11 pm, on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
