The Nepal-Japan joint working committee formed to facilitate the Japanese labour market for Nepali youths is being held today.
The meeting is being held under the leadership of the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Rajiv Pokhrel; where there will be representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
Similarly, the Japanese delegation will be led by the assistant deputy secretary of Japan government, Chosumo Nakagawa, according to Joint Secretary at Labour Ministry, Dunduraj Ghimire. He further said the meeting will discuss on the entire gamut of issues relating to employment for Nepali citizens in Japan.
The first meeting of the joint committee was held virtually in November 2020. As per the meeting, some 850 Nepalis have been provided employment in the sectors of caregiving, agriculture, construction and restaurant in Japan.
A labour agreement was reached between Nepal and Japan on specified skill workers (SSW) in 2019.
