Karnali Province Chief Tilak Pariyar has urged the Indigenous and Nationalities Commission to take initiatives to bring the Raute community in the mainstream of the State.

Receiving the Commission's report on Tuesday, the Province Chief stressed on bringing the Raute community, which has been living a nomadic life even in the present age of science and technology, in the mainstream of the State by preserving their distinct traditions.

He said the report would be forwarded to the Province Assembly through the provincial government for deliberation. Stating that the Indigenous and Nationalities Commission is an important State body of Nepal, he said the report of the Commission has been simultaneously submitted to the Chiefs of all the seven provinces in line with the provision of Article 294 (3) of the Constitution of Nepal.

Province Chief Pariyar said that the Commission has not been able to pick up the expected speed and urged especially the Karnali province government to take appropriate measures to bring the Raute community into the mainstream of the State, as the Raute community mostly roams in this province.

On the occasion, Province Chief Pariyar also spoke of the need of protecting the rights enshrined in the Constitution and translating them into practice.

Commission chair Surya Bahadur Gurung said that the report includes various activities carried out in connection with promoting the rights of the indigenous nationalities, the preparation and implementation of the Sustainable Action Plan 2079 and topics of improvement in various sectors as well as the recommendations to the three tiers of the government.
