Muhammad Day: Leaders appeal for maintaining good will

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, faith leaders have appealed for maintaining fraternity and social good will in the society.

At an open assembly held at Tirahutiya Gachhi of Janakpur Yesterday on the occasion, the leaders urged the general public with diverse religions, ethnicity and culture to keep intact century-old unity so as to promote social goodwill among the people.

At the programme, Chief Minister of Madhesh province, Saroj Kumar Yadav said it was the shared responsibility to discourage violent activities propping up lately in the name of different religions, communities and ethnicities.

They urged the communities concerned not to disturb harmonious Nepali society adopting the constitutionally-guaranteed secularism.

CPN-UML leader and lawmaker Juli Kumari Mahato said no religion allows violence and wrongdoings, urging all to come up with a resolution for social unity.

Likewise, Minister for Home, Communications and Law Mohammad Samim said all are free to enjoy their religious freedom within the scope of the constitution and cautioned all not to get involved in anti-social activities.

Faith leaders, including Maulana Israel Ahmad Rijawi and Hakim Rayin urged all not to engage in jeopardizing social harmony, fraternity, unity and good will.

The 1498th Muhammad birth anniversary is being observed across the globe today. The Madhes province has announced a public holiday in the province on Thursday.
