MoHP Wednesday reports 892 new COVID cases, 8 deaths

Nationwide COVID tally hits 794,163; death toll reaches 11,123

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Wednesday reported 892 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 794,163. Additionally, 265 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded eight deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. As of Wednesday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,123. Presently, there are 18,193 active cases in Nepal. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 335 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 265 cases, Lalitpur logged 42 cases and Bhaktapur logged 28 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 1,113 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Wednesday, a total of 764,847 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 96.3 per cent while the case fatality rate is at 1.4 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Tuesday had reported 904 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 793,271.

As of Wednesday, a total of 4,196,827 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 18,193 persons staying in isolation while 244 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

Meanwhile, 2,727,265 people have been administered the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccines and 1,518,005 others have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 4,487,477 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 3,227,564 others have received the second dose as of September 29, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Similarly, a total of 1,492,432 persons — 195,794 in Province 1; 325,060 in Province 2; 380,969 in Bagmati Province; 122,230 in Gandaki Province; 254,074 in Lumbini Province, 75,052 in Karnali Province and 139,253 in Sudurpaschim Province — have been vaccinated with single-shot Janssen vaccines. Out of the 2,175,6763 target population, 28.7 per cent has been fully vaccinated while 33.2 per cent has been administered the first dose of vaccine.

More than 232.81 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 4,970,000 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 40 countries.
