MoHP reports 2,279 new COVID cases, 23 deaths on Monday

Nationwide COVID tally hits 699,649; death toll reaches 9,898

A total of 12 children in a village in Parbat have been found to be infected with the coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health and Population Monday confirmed the detection of 2,279 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 699,649. Additionally, 846 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 23 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Monday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 9,898 Presently, there are 31,629active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 770 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 556 cases, Lalitpur logged 115 cases and Bhaktapur logged 99 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

Meanwhile, 1,828,484 people have been administered the first dose of Covishield vaccines and 460,308 have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 2,334,767 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 728,150 others have received the second dose as of August 2, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Similarly, a total of 563,572 persons — 8064 in Province 1; 123,685 in Province 2; 276,644 in Bagmati Province; 86,603 in Gandaki Province; 184,107 in Lumbini Province; 14,603 in Karnali Province and 13,369 in Sudurpaschim have been vaccinated with single-shot Janssen vaccines.

As many as 1,925 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Monday, a total of 658,122 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 94.1 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Sunday had reported 1,981 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 697,370.

As of Monday, a total of 3,622,480 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 31,629 persons staying in isolation while 368 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 198.33 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 4,387,000 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 81 countries where The US is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
