MoHP reports 1,167 new COVID cases, 2 deaths on Sunday

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday reported 1,688 new cases of coronavirus infection.

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday confirmed the detection of 1,167 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 832,589. Additionally, 326 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 2 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 184 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Sunday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,604. Presently, there are 6,755 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 615 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 491 cases, Lalitpur logged 99 cases and Bhaktapur logged 25 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 224 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, a total of 814,230 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 97.8 percent while the fatality rate is 1.4 percent.

Earlier, the MoHP confirmed Saturday the detection of 944 new cases of coronavirus infection.

As of Sunday, a total of 4,928,624 people have undergone the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 6,127 people staying in isolation while 113 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 306.08 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5,502,712 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 132 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
