Minister Karki instructs officials to follow plan

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has directed the chiefs of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to make the presence of government felt among the general public.

In a bi-annual review meeting at the Ministry on Thursday, Minister Karki said the CIT ministry was the face of the government thereby it should work to ensure outcome to the people along with the identification of problems.

Saying that results cannot be delivered by escaping from accountability and responsibility, Minister Karki asked the officials to increase the capital expenditure since it was not satisfying in the first six months of the current fiscal year.

Karki stated that the officials should meet the target of capital expenditure by completing the estimated tasks by mid-May.

The Minister shared that only 47 projects among 142 targeted milestones of the ministry announced in the national budget were completed and asked the officials to accomplish the remaining milestones.

On the occasion, Karki said he wanted to make telecommunications services more qualitative and reliable.

Also speaking at the programme, Member of National Planning Commission Saloni Pradhan Singh said part of implementation among the Ministry’s line agencies is not satisfactory though their role is crucial in the time of COVID-19.

Likewise, Secretary at the Ministry Dr Baikuntha Aryal urged for coordination among the line agencies to speed up their performance. He also directed the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Radio Nepal and Nepal Television for completing their digital archiving and to operate the video service of RSS and NTV World.
