The atmosphere at many places in Nepal has stayed still due to which the pollutant particles have been floating in the atmosphere causing air pollution, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology under the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
Particularly, the Kathmandu valley has witnessed an increase in the level of air pollution. The smog and other pollutant particles caused by wildfire taking place in various districts have accumulated in the atmosphere which has also resulted in the reduction of transparency. The department has said that there is less possibility for the atmosphere to become clearer anytime soon. The department has further urged citizens to avoid outdoor activities and compulsorily use the mask and take caution if one has to go outside.
Meanwhile, the hourly Air Quality Index (AQI) data of the Department of Environment has shown 'Unhealthy' as AQI index at Bhainsepati has stood at 196, TU Kirtipur at 189 Bhaktapur at 186 Ratnapark 162
The Air Quality Index (AQI) values determined between 151 to 200 has been categorised as "Unhealthy". Everyone may begin to experience some adverse health effects, and members of the sensitive groups may experience more serious effects. Likewise, the AQI index value between 201 to 300 has been categorised as 'Very Unhealthy'. This could trigger a health alert signifying that everyone may experience more serious health effects.
AQI values greater than 300 have been categorised as 'Hazardous'. It could trigger a health warnings of emergency conditions. The entire population is more likely to be affected if the AQI is greater than 300.
