The hearings at the Supreme Court on the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) have been taking place continuously. On Sunday, all the lawyers arguing against the dissolution of the HoR completed their arguments. From today, advocates from the government side will be placing their arguments.

The lawyers arguing for the government have been provided 15 hours to place their arguments. A total of 11 lawyers including Attorney General Ramesh Badal will be placing their arguments from the government side.

The arguments from the government side will be started by Attorney General Badal. He has been given a total time of three hours to place his arguments.

After the advocates from the government side complete their arguments lawyers advocating for Deuba will be provided three hours to place their arguments in response to the arguments made by the government side.

Senior advocates Komal Prasad Ghimire and Prakash Bahadur KC recommended by the Supreme Court Bar Association and senior advocates Raghav Lal Baidya and Usha Mallla Pathak recommended by Nepal Bar Association as amicus curiae will then give their views regarding the arguments. The Supreme Court had sought amicus curiae from both the associations for the hearings on the case.

It is only after this that the constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana and comprising Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, Meera Khadka, and Anand Mohan Bhattarai will issue the verdict.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari Bhandari, on the recommendation of the government, had dissolved the House of Representatives and announced the dates for mid-term elections on May 22. She had cited that the claims made by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also chairperson of CPN UML, and Nepali Congress President Deuba to form the government as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal did not hold sufficient ground to confirm that they would win the vote of confidence in the Parliament.
