Police have arrested a fugitive defendant for crimes of human trafficking and smuggling after 20 years. The arrested individual is Chopnath Nepal, 50, of Savik Kuvinde VDC-6 who is currently residing in Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality-4 of Savik Kuvinde VDC-6 of Sindhupalchok district.
He was arrested at around 7 pm on Wednesday on the basis of information that he was hiding in the Kuvinde area, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar Basnet. Nepal was sentenced to one year and six months imprisonment by the district court on December 31, 2001, in the case of human trafficking and smuggling.
According to Pranab Basnet, the Chautara prison office was prepared on Wednesday to immediately impose the imprisonment sentence by the district court.
