Human rights activist Baral no more

Human rights activist Tek Nath Baral passed away on Tuesday. Based in Pokhara, Baral was active in the field of human rights and social justice for more than five decades. He was 85.

Baral was a founding member of Civil Society Network, Kaski, formed during the insurgency.

Bara was a campaigner against violence against women, dowry system, social injustice and equalities.

During the time of insurgency, Baral played a crucial role in establishing rights of the conflict-hit people and also was involved in the monitoring of the human rights violations then.

The Informal Service Centre (INSEC) had felicitated Baral in 2062 BS with the Prakash Human Rights Prize, which was instituted in memory of late Prakash Kafle, the founding general secretary of INSEC.

Meanwhile, the INSEC has expressed grief over the demise of Baral.

Issuing a press statement, Chairman of INSEC Dr Kundal Aryal has stated that Baral will be remembered by all Nepalis for his outstanding contribution to human rights.
