The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court will be hearing the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

The hearing was put off on Monday after Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana fell ill. There is a constitutional provision that a hearing by the constitutional bench must be conducted under the chair of the chief justice.

A constitutional bench had been formed comprising of Chief Justice Rana and Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Anand Mohan Bhattarai to hear the writ petitions on Sunday, however it was postponed for Monday due to discussions regarding the composition of the constitutional bench.

Devendra Dhakal, Spokesperson of the Supreme Court, said that the hearing has been determined for Wednesday. The hearing on the writs has not been initiated so far due to the disputes regarding the composition of the bench.

A total of 30 writ petitions have been filed at the apex court against President Bidhya Devi Bhandari's decision to dissolve the House of Representatives and announce dates for mid-term elections. The writ petitions have urged the court to declare the HoR dissolution and mid-term elections unconstitutional and unlawful.
