Govt. active to make country prosperous: DPM Shrestha

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha today said the government was active in making elderly people feel a wave of prosperity.

 Inaugurating the Second Himalayan International Expo-2080 at an event here in Bhrikutimandap today, the Deputy Prime Minister shared that economic prosperity along with social justice is the current national responsibility.

He pointed out the active role of the private sector for developing the national capital, stressing the need for the government and the private sector to come together to make the country prosperous socially and economically.

 "The incumbent government is active in making people feel a change in their lifestyle following political changes. All sectors should go hand in hand with the government's campaign," added DPM Shrestha.

Stating that the country's trade deficit could be reduced only by exporting domestic products, minister the Home Minister called for all to focus on replacing imports with exports. The Expo has started from today aiming to promote local handicraft products and that produced from cottage and small industries, and help export them by expanding them in the international market. The Expo that will run till October 16 have many stalls set up showcasing domestic products including clothes, brooms and food items.

The exhibitions has also stalls featuring herbal medicines, species, handicrafts, wooden utensils made by indigenous Raute and Chepang communities, Dhaka textile of Tehrathum district, Khukuri of Bhojpur district, Karuwa of Sankhuwasabha district and cosmetics made by organic raw materials among others.

Furthermore, pashmina products, curio products, garments, carpets, Nepali paper, metal crafts, felt products, and products made of Dhaka textile among others are also kept in the exhibition, the organizers said.

Over 500 foreign buyers from India, China, the USA and Canada as well as other European countries participated in the exhibition, said Kapil Adhikari, Coordinator of the expo. The exhibition was organization to promote the export of Nepal-made products where an interaction programme will be conducted between the buyers and the sellers.

Handicraft exhibition, seminars on contemporary issues among others are also part of the program that aims to attract over 50,000 visitors.
