16,000 fish fries have been released into Pokhara's Fewa lake. Acting Chief of Pokhara Municipal Corporation Manju Devi Gurung has released fish fries in Fewa lake at a program organized at Pokhara-18, Khapaudi recently.
She stressed the need of conserving the local species of fish found in the lake. Dhan Bahadur Nepali, the spokesperson of Pokhara metropolis, said that the Fewa lake could be developed as a place to study fish to make it more attractive. Chief of Pokhara Metropolitan Agriculture Division Manhar Kadaria said that the clean and hygienic fish of Fewa lake should be branded, marketed, and diversified for sale and distribution.
Local Gyan Bahadur Jalari said that the local species of fish were becoming extinct due to the use of electricity and pesticides in the lake, which did not get the attention of the concerned bodies. He said that fish are the livelihood of the fishing community and the metropolis should pay special attention to the protection of its products. Chairman of the ward Ran Bahadur Thapa informed that 16,000 fish of Silver Cut and Wighead species were released in the lake. Stating that fish fries have been released in the lake from the ward's budget, he opined that it has become easier to raise the living standard of the local fishing community from fish.
