Digital embossed number plates introduced by the government to manage vehicles are not as popular as expected. Only 8,000 vehicles have attached embossed number plates out of 2.5 million in the past four years.

As the current embossed number plate is more expensive than the existing number plate, citizens have not paid attention to it. After attaching the embossed number plate, the RFID Digital gate construction process has been forwarded by the Department of Transportation Management (DoTM).

DoTM in August had made a rule to transfer the current number plate to embossed in all types of vehicles but vehicles owners are not fascinated by it.

The embossed number plate attachment could not proceed as expected due to the case in the Supreme Court and COVID-19 pandemic, said the DoTM spokesperson, Loknath Bhusal. Currently, 8,000 vehicles have attached embossed numbers, we are planning to attach 2.5 million embossed numbers within 2.5 years, said Bhusal to Samacharpatra he added.
