Efforts are made on Monday to remove stone, wood and sand deposited at the motorable bridge over the Marsyangdi River. The removal of obstruction is on the hopes to bring the river to its natural course.

“As the weather improved to some extent on Monday, we became able to clear the wood and stones trapped by the bridge which blocked the natural current of the flooded river. It helped bring the river in its normal course,” said Chief District Officer, Bishnua Prasad Lamichhane, adding that both the bridge and nearby settlement were at high risk due to the river flooded after incessant rainfall for some days.

The river had changed its course after the flood and obstruction with the wood and stones trapped by the bridge which is constructed at low height from the river.

Deputy Superintendent of Police in Manang, Homnath Panthi, informed that there was diversion of river which eroded its bank and posed serious threat to the nearby settlement. “A dozer was used to clear the obstruction. The security committees in the district were committed to face the adversity,” he added.

Once the river is fully brought to its natural course, the settlement around it would be safe, DSP Panthi hoped.
