In recent times, it has been observed that the incidents of drug use are increasing in Surkhet. During three years, 180 drug cases were registered at the District Police Office and 292 defendants were arrested. According to the police statistics, 52 drug cases were registered in the financial year 2019/20 and 90 people including six women were arrested. In the year 2020/21, 49 cases of the same type were registered, and the police arrested 69 people, including eight women, involved in the business. In the year 2021/22, 79 cases were registered and 123 were arrested, including nine women.
Suraj Karki, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office informed that many cases have been registered due to the police's activeness and increased awareness. "The activity of the police has increased recently", he said. According to the police statistics, 98 grams of brown sugar, four kilograms of 328 hashish, 332 grams of marijuana were seized in FC 19/20. 92 g 640 mg of brown sugar was recovered in 20/21
Similarly, on 21/22, 187 grams of 940 mg of brown sugar, seven grams of 140 mg of white sugar, 252 grams of 930 mg of marijuana, as well as Nitravet, Tramol, and Corex tablets were also recovered.
