Devotees reached Devghat Dham amidst the COVID pandemic to take bath on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti.
Although devotees were barred from entering, those who came on foot were allowed to enter from 8.30 am. Dhiran Babu Ghimire, executive director of the Devghat Area Development Committee, said that those coming from outside the district were barred from entering Devghat due to the COVID scare.
Millions of devotees visit Devghat every year on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti, but this time the number of devotees has decreased. "Initially, it was decided to ban entry this year, but we have not been able to prevent the arrival of devotees. We have allowed only a small number of devotees to enter," Ghimire said. According to him, vehicles were not allowed to enter Devghat.
It is estimated that about five thousand devotees took a bath in Tanahu and Chitwan today. The Maghe Sankranti Mela held at Devghat on Maghe Sankranti is considered to be the largest and most famous fair in Nepal.
