After the impeachment motion was filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana, he is automatically suspended. Now, Senior Judge of the Supreme Court Deepak Kumar Karki will be the acting Chief Justice.
Karki will also be the acting chairperson of the Constitutional Council, Judicial Service Commission and Judicial Council.
According to Article 101 (6) of the Constitution, no action can be taken until the motion of impeachment is finalized.
98 lawmakers of the ruling coalition including Gagan Thapa, Minendra Rijal, Pushpa Bhusal, Jeevan Ram Shrestha and Dev Gurung have filed an impeachment against Chief Justice Rana at the Parliament Secretariat on Sunday.
