Both the mother and the newborn died after giving birth at the district hospital in Humla. Tika Sarki, 21, of Simkot village municipality-5 died on January 22 and her newborn baby died on January 19. According to the hospital, she was operated on and delivered.
According to Tika's father-in-law Dhan Singh Sarki, she was taken to the district hospital due to labor pains. After that, the baby was delivered by cesarean section. Despite significant improvement in Tika's health for two days after the operation, a sudden health problem was reported on Friday evening. He died on the same night, according to the district hospital. Tika, who hails from Nachdanath Municipality-8, Jumla, got married in Humla a year ago. Tika's body has been kept at the district hospital after his relatives did not allow him to pick it up. Chief of the District Health Service Office, Prem Singh, said that Tika's family refused to pick up the body as the parents did not allow her to pick up the body until they knew the cause of death.
This is the first time a midwife has died in a hospital maternity ward. The women here have lost their lives due to untimely treatment. Lack of regular stay of health workers in the district and lack of medical equipment have resulted in loss of life. Humla is not connected to the national road network. Similarly, Gaugara Chhatyal of Adanchuli village in the southern part of the district died five minutes after giving birth on December 12.
