Sitaram Sardar of Bhangaha Municipality-6, a veteran of the Left Democratic Movement of Nepal, has passed away today. Sardar, who had been suffering from paralysis, diabetes and high blood pressure for a long time, died at his residence at the age of 80 today.

The leaders of the backward Bantar caste community in Madhesh had been active in politics with the historic people's movement of 2036 BS. Sardar joined the Communist Party of Nepal led by Vishnu Bahadur Manandhar in 2038 BS and joined the CPN (UML) in 2049 BS.

In a society steeped in traditional caste discrimination, Sardar constantly struggled against untouchability and ethnic oppression. According to Ram Dayal Mandal, UML politburo member and Mahottari district in-charge, Sardar is one of the few examples within the party to reach the district leadership from the Bantar caste community. All the parties in the district have expressed grief over the demise of Sardar. UML district chairman Tek Bahadur Balampaki has said that Sardar is a man of integrity and loyalty.

Similarly, Bhangaha Municipal President of Nepali Congress Rup Narayan Singh has mentioned that the selfless contribution of Sardar in the democratic movement of the country will always be remembered. Local leader of the CPN (Maoist Center) Raj Narayan Tharu, who is remembered as a true friend of the working people, has a reaction.

Similarly, the Bhangaha Municipal Committee of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal have issued condolence statements and paid tribute to Sardar. Sardar's last rites were performed this evening on the banks of Ratu river near his settlement Majra. Sardar has a wife, six children and grandchildren.
