Outgoing Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has said the economic growth rate would remain above six per cent in the current fiscal year 2022/23.

At a press conference at the Ministry on Monday, Sharma shared that although the economy faced serious problems this year, it is now slowly recovering. He claimed that though the economic growth rate could not reach as targeted, it will remain above the six per cent.

The outgoing Minister said, "We had set a target of achieving eight per cent economic growth rate in the current fiscal year. It is seen that the economic growth rate will remain at least above six per cent. The inflation which had reached 10 per cent in the beginning of the current fiscal year is now decreasing."

Although the revenue decreased due to government's restriction in import of some goods, it helped to reduce trade deficit, shared the outgoing Finance Minister.

Sharma claimed that he took initiatives to make the economy self-reliant, implemented different plans and programmes, made remarkable progress in receiving foreign aid, and made the Customs Clearance System systematic during his 19-month term.

He expressed the view that the capital expenditure is now low, it will slowly pick up pace.

Sharma added that the new government should move ahead with a new policy to take the country's economy ahead with new speed.
