The government for now will not allow the use of ‘Coronil’, an ayurvedic drug claimed to be of use in COVID-19 treatment. The coronil kit was donated by Patanjali Yogpeeth, India, to the Ministry of Health and Population.

The use of the ayurvedic drug has not been permitted citing that the drug has hit the Nepali market without following the due process.

Director General of the Department of Ayurveda Dr Basudev Upadhyay has said the medicine will not be used in the country as it has been introduced in the market without registering it in the concerned authority. “It requires due process for the use of a drug in emergency. However, Patanjali has introduced the drug without following the due process,” he said.

The Patanjali Yogpeeth chapter in Nepal had handed over 1,600 coronil sets to the government to help its fight against the COVID-19 infection.
