Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said construction of the Geta Medical College would speed up.

The Cabinet meeting yesterday decided to upgrade the college to the Shahid Dasharath Chand National Health Science University, he said while carrying out a field inspection of the college at Geta of Godabari Municipality-5 in the Kailali district.

"The meeting yesterday theoretically decided to develop the college as the Shahid Dasharath Chand National Health Science University. Now, there will be efforts to run the college in practice," he said.

Recalling that he during his first tenure as the Prime Minister pledged to work for Sudurpaschim Province, and inspected many projects, the PM said, "This time too, I started inspecting province-level projects from Sudurpaschim. The national health science university, a proud project of the country, is being developed."

On the occasion, Hemraj Pujara, executive director of the Medical College Infrastructure Construction Committee, presented the construction-related report.

The constructing company has handed over 28 of the total 42 buildings and structures belonging to the college after completing their construction as per the project master plan.

Construction of the remaining buildings and structures including the road and drinking water pipeline will be complete in the next five months, it has been said. The cost of the project until now is estimated to be around Rs 5.45 billion. Started in 2066 BS at Geta in Kailali district, the project will have 600-bed hospital buildings. It aims to provide quality and cost-effective health services.
