All three tiers of government have been urged to implement the recommendation furnished by the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) committee.

During a Madhes province level interaction on 'Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and CEDAW committee recommendation' here on wednesday, the stakeholders urged the government to guarantee women's rights by enforcing the recommendations.

CEDAW committee member Bandana Rana said all three layers of government must be serious to enforce the recommendations Nepal government got in the third cycle of UPR on women rights.

Under Section 1 to 16 of CEDAW, Nepal has furnished 21 recommendations in the UPR for ensuring equality to women and ending discrimination against women. Similarly, constant watch from civil society is equally important to address the concern from law, policy, plan and programmes, according to Rana.

Member of Women, Children and Social Justice Committee in Madhes Province, Anjana Pandit admitted that though there is no legal vacuum, hindrance on practical implementation is a matter of concern.

"Nepal's constitution has finely incorporated the issues as women's education, health, employment and proportional representation, there are practical problems on it," she reminded, stressing that all sides concerned as government, political parties and CSOs should be sensitive for the implementation of women's rights.
