The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has directed helicopter companies in the country not to raise the airfare. At present, domestic flights along with vehicular movement have been restricted to stop the spread of the second wave of the coronavirus, it said.
Issuing a statement, CAAN said that it has been brought to its notice that helicopter companies have been charging more than the usual fare while transporting passengers infected with COVID-19 and also while delivering essential commodities. It has said that the helicopter companies have been charging the hourly fare as fixed by the government for normal purposes but has been charging an additional fee while transporting COVID patients citing the safety requirements that need to be fulfilled while carrying such passengers.
CAAN has directed the helicopter companies to reduce the additional fare that it has been charging to ferry patients infected with coronavirus. It has also asked the companies to appoint a contact person and make the official’s name and telephone number public so as to stop passengers from being swindled by middlemen for booking flights.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has also asked people who have been facing problems while booking helicopter flights to lodge their complaints with Gyanendra Bhul, Deputy Manager of the Flight Permission Section of CAAN. Bhul can be contacted on 9851135091 or at [email protected] or [email protected].
