Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel has held discussions regarding converting the newly-built building of Bir Hospital into a 500-bed COVID-19 special hospital.

At the meeting held at his office in Singha Durbar on Sunday, DPM Pokharel, who also coordinates COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC), deliberated about optimizing the newly-built building for treating the infected patients.

Present at the meeting were Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi, CCMC Office’s Secretary Khagaraj Baral and representatives of Bir Hospital among others, according to DPM Pokhrel’s press advisor Ganesh Pandey.

The government is preparing to operate an isolation facility in the building constructed on the premises of Bir Hospital.

The government has set up additional 1,000-bed isolation facilities in private and public hospitals in the Kathmandu Valley today alone to render treatment to the COVID-19 suspected and infected people.

CCMC has been exploring alternatives to respond to COVID-19 as the number of infected ones is reported alarmingly in the country.

DPM Pokhrel held a telephone talk with the CDO of Banke district Shivaraj Gelal and took stock of the situation in the wake of the second wave of COVID-19, shared press advisor Pandey.
