The 208th Birth Anniversary of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya has been celebrated in the United Kingdom on Friday.
Organised by the Nepali Literature Development Council, UK, the virtual celebration programme was attended by people from various walks of life from Nepal, India, and the UK.
On the occasion, ex-officio custodian of the Council and Ambassador of Nepal to the UK Lok Darshan Regmi pledged to provide assistance to the Council for the promotion of Nepali literature.
Similarly, advisor of the Council, Nepal section, Prof Dr Devi Prasad Subedi praised the Adikavi (pioneer poet), Acharya, for language uniformity in the country through Valmeeki's Ramayan, an epic translated by Acharya.
Council's founding chairperson Suresh Jung Shah said that the Council was at work to conserve Nepali literature and encourage writers in the UK.
Acharya is the first poet of the Nepali language and is highly honoured for translating Ramayan in the local dialect about 150 years ago.
